Our Story – Designing in 5D
From Setback to Signature — Turning Lemons into Livable Luxury
For Jodi Koch Peterman, design has always been about more than creating beautiful spaces — it’s about helping people feel grounded, confident, and at peace in their homes.
After earning her degree from Iowa State University, Jodi moved to New York City, where she interned with Kay Unger New York, a luxury fashion house known for timeless craftsmanship and detail. That experience shaped her belief that true luxury begins with intention — the way a space feels, functions, and supports everyday life.
In 2004, Jodi co-founded her first design business, and by 2007, she took full ownership — rebranding it as Elizabeth Erin Designs, named after her twin daughters’ middle names. The company became her personal mission: to blend livable beauty with clear communication, giving clients both confidence and control in the design process.
That mission became personal when Jodi built her own home in Iowa.
The builder walked off the project, the timeline quadrupled, and the budget ballooned more than 25% — despite no design changes. Working off allowances and without due diligence, the builder’s lack of coordination threw her family’s life into chaos.
Instead of giving up, Jodi turned lemons into lemonade.
She took that painful experience and transformed it into a process that would protect her future clients from the same frustration — one built on clarity, communication, and confidence.
That’s how the Designing in 5D Process was born — a proven, intentional approach that bridges the gap between clients and contractors, aligning vision, budget, and function from day one.
Today, Elizabeth Erin Designs is a nationally recognized firm rooted in Luxury with Intention — creating Livable Luxury that is practical, timeless, and always Defined by You. From primary suites and kitchens to vacation homes and boutique developments, Jodi and her team bring quiet confidence and heart to every project they touch.
Your Vision. Our Expertise. Luxury, Defined by You.
