Design Forecast 2026: Bold Color, Natural Balance, and the Return of Livable Luxury

Design never stands still—and 2026 is no exception. From deep jewel tones and curved silhouettes to natural textures and wellness-driven layouts, this year’s trends are all about harmony: the blend of bold and balanced, modern and timeless.

In the latest episode of Designing in 5D, I sat down with our lead designers Ashtyn Chance and Haylee Meador to unpack what’s coming next—and how to design a home that feels fresh without falling for fads. Here’s what we’re loving, what we’re leaving, and how to stay inspired through it all.

1. Jewel Tones Take Center Stage

Emerald, sapphire, and maroon are making a strong return—but this time, they’re used with intention.

“Those deeper jewel tones add personality without losing that timeless feel,” says Ashtyn.

These rich shades pair beautifully with warm neutrals, wood tones, and layered finishes. Try them in smaller, contained spaces like a powder bath, pantry, or laundry room for a pop of drama that still feels livable.

2. Goodbye Cool Gray—Hello Warmth

The cool gray, farmhouse aesthetic is officially over. 2026 brings warmth back into the home with creamy taupes, beige-based neutrals, and soft browns that create a grounded, inviting atmosphere.

“Grays aren’t gone completely,” Haylee explains. “It’s all about the undertone. A warm gray paired with natural wood feels timeless, not tired.”

3. Natural Meets Glam

Glam is evolving. Forget the crystal chandeliers—think polished brass, ribbed textures, and velvet finishes that patina beautifully over time.

“When design is done right, there’s always a touch of glam,” Ashtyn adds. “It’s what draws your eye.”

The new luxury feels effortless: tactile finishes, honest materials, and subtle sheen that whisper, not shout.

4. Curves, Comfort, and Character

Straight lines are giving way to soft silhouettes. From rounded sofas to arched mirrors and sculptural furniture, curves are bringing back a sense of comfort and femininity.

“Curves make a space feel more inviting,” Haylee notes. “People are craving warmth and softness after years of minimal, boxy design.”

It’s a nod to vintage forms—with the livable ease of today.

5. Functionality and Wellness First

Every space we design starts with how you live. Flex spaces, fitness rooms, and wellness zones are rising as homeowners seek balance in body and mind.

In our recent show home, we designed a lower-level gym and sauna retreat complete with natural light, organic textures, and calming colors—a perfect example of design that nurtures wellbeing.

“If it doesn’t have a purpose, it needs to go,” I always tell clients. Beauty follows function.

6. Trends We’re Retiring

Some fan favorites are ready for a graceful exit:

  • Gray-washed floors

  • Bouclé everything (keep it to pillows!)

  • Endless shiplap and subway tile

  • All-white kitchens with zero contrast

The future is layered, personal, and full of character—because livable luxury means letting your home evolve with you.

7. Where to Invest (and Where to Refresh)

Long-term value lies in quality pieces you touch daily: sofas, beds, countertops, and lighting. Refresh the rest—paint, hardware, area rugs, and pillows can transform your home seasonally without overspending.

A timeless base allows you to layer trend accents freely, giving your space flexibility to grow over time.

8. The Human Touch Still Wins

While technology and AI are reshaping creative industries, design remains deeply personal.

“AI can’t replace the emotional connection we build with our clients,” Ashtyn says.
“Design is about how you feel in your space—and that’s something no algorithm can replicate,” Haylee adds.

At the end of the day, great design isn’t just how it looks—it’s how it feels.

The Takeaway

2026 design trends celebrate individuality, balance, and intentional living. Bold color is back, warmth is in, and homes are becoming reflections of wellness and personality—not perfection.

Ready to bring these ideas to life? Let’s start with a Discovery Call and design a home that’s as functional as it is beautiful.
