Eco-Friendly Cleaning Solutions: Save Money with Jodi’s DIY Home Cleaning Recipes

Are you, like me, concerned about the chemicals we expose our families to? Last year, I embarked on a journey to discover more natural cleaning methods. After experimenting with various recipes in my new home and refining them, I began sharing these eco-friendly tips with our clients. The positive feedback was overwhelming, prompting me to share my findings with you as we embrace the freshness of spring.

Not only do these homemade solutions reduce our chemical footprint, but they’re also kind to our wallets. I invite you to try them out and share your thoughts! If you’ve discovered effective recipes of your own, I’m eager to exchange ideas. Expanding into homemade body products is a goal for 2024, so I welcome any recipes or collaboration opportunities in this area.

In this blog, you’ll find in-text links to products and items I personally use, sourced from Amazon and various small businesses. Many ingredients are used across multiple recipes, offering even more savings for future projects. Here’s to a healthy, joyful 2024—do what makes you smile!

Directions:

Combine all ingredients and transfer to your spray bottle using the funnel. Apply the solution to a washable pad for walls, or directly onto a scrubby washcloth for trim and baseboards. This blend effectively removes fingerprints and scuffs with ease.

Upholstery Cleaner

Materials Needed:

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Cleaning Cloths
  • 2 Cups Hot Water
  • 1/4 Cup Baking Soda (Aluminum-free for health-conscious cleaning)
  • 1 Tbsp Dish Soap (Explore Molly’s Suds’ inspiring journey!)

Directions:

In the bowl, mix hot water, baking soda, and dish soap. Soak a cleaning cloth in the solution, wring out excess, then wrap it around a small pot lid to clean upholstery efficiently. This technique offers significant savings over professional cleaning services. For tougher jobs, I trust my local Zero Rez Company.

Grout Cleaner

Materials Needed:

  • Pot (for warming vinegar)
  • Small Mixing Bowl
  • Whisk
  • Grout Brush
  • 1/4 Cup Vinegar (Dilute as needed)
  • 2 Tsp Cream of Tartar (Also great for polishing stainless steel!)

Directions:

Warm the vinegar and mix with cream of tartar to form your cleaning solution. Replace the vinegar frequently to maintain effectiveness. For best results, apply elbow grease and consider letting the mixture sit on stubborn stains before scrubbing. For professional help, consult a local flooring specialist.

Cleaning the Shower Head

Materials Needed:

  • Plastic Baggie
  • Hair Tie or Rubber Band
  • Cleaning Cloth
  • Approx. 1 Cup Vinegar (Diluted)
  • 2 Drops Orange Essential Oil
  • 3 Drops Rosemary Essential Oil

Shop Here: https://www.amazon.com/shop/elizabetherindesigns/list/UYW00LNHQPJ8?ref_=aip_sf_list_spv_ofs_mixed_d

Directions:

Fill the baggie with vinegar and essential oils. Secure it over the shower head with a rubber band, ensuring it’s fully submerged. Leave it overnight (or for 10-12 hours during the day). Remove and wipe the shower head with a cloth, then flush with water for a sparkling finish.
