There’s a difference between living in a beautiful home…
and truly living well in it.
That’s the heart of Livable Luxury Interior Design — a concept we explore deeply in this week’s episode of the Designing in 5D podcast. I sat down with two of our talented designers, Ashtyn Chance and Haylee Meador, to talk honestly about what makes a home feel grounded, aligned, and intentionally designed for real life.
If you’ve ever walked into a space that looked “perfect” on paper but didn’t support your lifestyle, your energy, or your rituals… this is going to shift everything for you.
What Livable Luxury Really Means
At Elizabeth Erin Designs, livable luxury is not about perfection. It’s not a museum. It’s not just a pretty picture.
It’s about creating a home where:
-
your routines turn into rituals
-
your space supports your lifestyle
-
you feel more grounded, intentional, and present
-
beauty and function coexist seamlessly
Haylee says it best:
“Livable luxury is a space that’s beautiful, but primarily comfortable, functional, and truly used to its full potential.”
Ashtyn adds:
“It’s not for show. It’s the details that elevate your lifestyle.”
And I couldn’t agree more. To me, livable luxury means moving out of auto-pilot and into presence. It’s creating spaces that help you slow down, breathe deeper, and reconnect with yourself — whether it’s through lighting, texture, scent, or a small personal ritual.

The 5 Senses Matter More Than You Think
When we design for livable luxury, we design for all five senses:
1. Touch
Soft textures, layered fabrics, warm woods, and inviting materials instantly calm the nervous system. A cozy throw or a leather sofa can change how grounded you feel.
2. Sight
Lighting matters — a lot. Bright white bulbs can feel harsh. Warm, dimmable lighting creates calm instantly. Layered lighting is one of the easiest luxury upgrades you can make in a weekend.
3. Smell
Scent creates emotional connection. We’ve even integrated HVAC scent systems for clients who want their homes to smell like a boutique hotel — yes, even ones with pets.
4. Sound
A quiet space, soft music, or intentional acoustics help you feel at ease. Even changing the echo of a room with textiles can make it more inviting.
5. Spatial Flow
This is where true luxury lives. When your home flows with your lifestyle — morning routines, evening rhythms, how you entertain — everything feels easier.
Why People Are Craving Grounded Luxury Right Now
We asked this question directly in the podcast:
Why are people suddenly craving spaces that feel calmer, grounded, and more intentional?
The answer was unanimous.
Since COVID, people became more aware of how their homes make them feel. They want balance, comfort, connection, and authenticity. Not the copy-and-paste designs that show up on every Pinterest board — but spaces that reflect who they truly are.
As Ashtyn shared:
“Design was copy-paste for so long. Now people want homes that feel unique to them — that’s the real luxury.”
And Haylee added:
“People want more intention, more meaning, and more alignment in the place they spend the most time.”
How the 5D Process Creates Livable Luxury
Livable luxury isn’t random — it’s built intentionally through our 5D Process, which helps clients see every possibility before construction ever begins.
It allows us to:
-
collaborate closely
-
educate clients clearly
-
explore wild ideas and scale them gracefully
-
value engineer without sacrificing beauty
-
make decisions with confidence
Renderings play a huge role here. Even though no rendering is 100% exact, it helps clients see the space before a single product is ordered.
Often, that’s where the “aha moment” happens.
As I often say:
“We’re the bridge of communication between contractor and client.”
That clarity is what creates trust — and trust leads to bold, beautiful design choices that transform a home.
Small Weekend Upgrades to Create Livable Luxury
You don’t need a full remodel to feel a shift.
Here are the top small changes we recommend:
1. Swap to warm, dimmable lighting
Instant mood-lifter.
2. Declutter one room
Clutter is the biggest block to livable luxury. Edit ruthlessly.
3. Add intentional texture
A throw blanket, textured pillow, or soft rug can shift the entire energy.
4. Curate meaningful moments
A framed photo, a book you love, or a candle you always reach for.
5. Refresh with one new accent
A pillow, a piece of art, or even a picture frame can help you feel more at home.

Mindset Shifts That Unlock Livable Luxury
Some of the biggest design transformations don’t start with finishes — they start with mindset.
Here are the three shifts we see most often:
1. Trust the process
Good design isn’t random. It’s layered, intentional, and sometimes challenging (in a good way).
2. Be open to possibilities
The first idea that scares you a little?
That’s usually the one that transforms the whole space.
3. Value engineering doesn’t mean compromising
It means prioritizing what matters most — with clarity, confidence, and creativity.
Real Projects, Real Emotion
What makes livable luxury so powerful is the emotional impact it has on real families.
Our team shared stories in this episode — clients grieving the loss of a loved one, clients making a home feel connected again, clients finally creating spaces that support their new chapters.
Design isn’t just visual.
It’s emotional.
It’s healing.
It’s transformational.
And that’s why livable luxury matters.
