Welcome! I’m Jodi Peterman, CEO of Elizabeth Erin Designs, and I’m excited to share the personal journey that led me to launch the Designing in 5D podcast. Driven by a passion for creating beautiful and functional spaces, my design story began in the heartland of Iowa and has taken me to New Jersey, Texas, and back again. Each location has uniquely shaped my design philosophy and the innovative process we use at Elizabeth Erin Designs today. Through Designing in 5D, I aim to show how thoughtful interior design can genuinely transform lives and spaces.
Early Beginnings and Design Inspiration
My love for design started at a young age, influenced by my grandmothers, who were both skilled seamstresses. They inspired me to create, whether through fashion or interior spaces. Growing up on an Iowa farm instilled a strong work ethic, and by age seven, I already knew I wanted to pursue design. I even told my grandmother I’d attend Iowa State for design—and I did!
My career path took me to New York City for an internship, then to Texas for new opportunities, and ultimately back to Iowa. Working at Kate Unger Designs in NYC and Bath and Body Works in Texas gave me hands-on experience in various aspects of design. Each role enriched my knowledge and helped me shape the unique, holistic approach I use today.
Launching Elizabeth Erin Designs: A Business Inspired by Family
Years later, we returned to Iowa, where I purchased an interior design company and renamed it Elizabeth Erin Designs, honoring my twin daughters, Hannah Elizabeth and Sidney Erin. My goal was to build a firm that not only delivered beautiful designs but also provided exceptional client-centered service. From the start, I focused on creating spaces that are not just aesthetically pleasing but also functional and joyful. I wanted every client to feel supported and confident at each step of the design journey.
Overcoming Design Challenges and Creating the EED Process
Building my own home taught me invaluable lessons about the client experience. Like many, I faced budget challenges, miscommunications, and project delays. These obstacles led me to develop the Elizabeth Erin Designs (EED) Process—a streamlined approach that ensures our projects flow smoothly from planning to completion. By focusing on transparency and anticipating challenges, we aim to minimize stress and provide clients with spaces they’ll love for years to come.
The Holistic Design Approach at Elizabeth Erin Designs
The EED Process combines aesthetics, functionality, and emotional support to create holistic, livable spaces. My ultimate goal is not only to make beautiful spaces but to design environments that bring peace, joy, and functionality to our clients’ lives. Elizabeth Erin Designs has become known for crafting welcoming, livable luxury that enhances everyday living. Through the Designing in 5D podcast, I hope to share these principles with even more people, inspiring listeners to see the true potential of thoughtful design.
