As the clock strikes midnight and we step into a brand-new year, I can’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude and excitement. Not only are we celebrating the arrival of 2025, but we are also marking the 22nd anniversary of Elizabeth Erin Designs. Twenty-two years. Just saying it out loud feels surreal, as if it’s both a lifetime and the blink of an eye all at once.
This milestone has given me a chance to reflect deeply on the journey that brought me here—a journey filled with resilience, lessons, and growth. From starting as a new mom and wife with a dream and not much else, to building a business that has touched so many lives, every step has been meaningful. I’ve overcome challenges I never thought I’d face, and I’ve celebrated wins that were once beyond my imagination. Along the way, I’ve grown not just as a business owner, but as a person.
Lessons from the Past 22 Years
If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that resilience is everything. Whether it was taking on $80,000 in debt to keep Elizabeth Erin Designs alive or balancing the demands of being a mom while building a business, there were times I had to choose between giving up and pressing on. Spoiler alert: I chose to press on. And every time, the challenges taught me invaluable lessons about myself and my capacity to overcome.
One of my favorite stories is how the company got its name. I was sitting in my loft, brainstorming after deciding I couldn’t use “J. Peterman Designs”—thanks to the infamous Seinfeld character. My daughters, Hannah Elizabeth and Sydney Erin, were playing downstairs, and when I called out their middle names, inspiration struck. Elizabeth Erin Designs was born, encapsulating not just my vision but the heart and soul of my family. It was a reminder that this business wasn’t just for me; it was for them and for everyone we’ve had the privilege of serving.
Embracing Change and Growth
Over the years, the industry has evolved, and so have we. From pencil-and-paper designs to 3D renderings, the tools of our trade have transformed. But one thing has remained constant: our commitment to crafting timeless, livable luxury tailored to each client’s unique vision. Trends may come and go (goodbye, shiplap), but our core values—truth, honesty, loyalty, and efficiency—continue to guide us.
Another constant has been the incredible team I’ve had the privilege of working with. From the early days of juggling roles as mom and designer, to now leading a powerhouse group of professionals who share my passion and dedication, I couldn’t be more grateful. Each team member, past and present, has left their mark on this company, helping us grow and serve our clients better every day.
Looking Ahead to 2025
As we step into 2025, I’m filled with excitement about what’s to come. This year, my focus is on being in flow—embracing the present, letting go of past regrets, and not worrying about what hasn’t yet happened. This mindset of surrender and flow allows me to enjoy the process, whether it’s designing a stunning new space or diving into personal growth.
We have so many exciting projects on the horizon, including a show home collaboration with Alair Homes that will set a new standard for intentional, thoughtful design. Our podcast, Designing in 5D, is also taking off, giving us a platform to share not just design insights but the deeper, spiritual side of creativity and transformation. And as always, we’re continuing to strengthen our partnerships and relationships, ensuring that every project is a true collaboration rooted in trust and shared vision.
