Is your home feeling cold and unwelcoming? EED suggests adding heated floors!

Have you noticed when you step out of your shower or tub that you instantly become cold? Installing a heated flooring system into your bathroom or other home space may be the answer to your chilly toes!   Heated flooring systems work by directly heating the floor through a mat with electric wires that get’s installed on top of cement board. The heating system is installed under floor tile, so direct heat is provided to anything that comes in contact with the floor. The heat can then be absorbed by your feet and in-turn, warm up the rest of the room. There are obvious pros to installing heated-flooring systems, as they are low maintenance, easy to install, and energy efficient. You can even install heated floors under carpeting, hardwood floors, and laminate!

There are a few things to consider if you want to install a heated flooring system.

First and foremost, all of your existing flooring must be removed in order to add the heating system underneath. We suggest that the perfect time to add heated floors is if you are already planning a remodel, or if you are building a new home as it will be much easier to add the system before the flooring is laid. Heated flooring is well worth the investment, as you can save costs in the long run on your family’s heating bill.

Recently, we had a client wanting to get their home “market-ready”, but also wanted to enjoy some of the updates they were making before they sold the home. They knew they needed to update their master bathroom not only for design features, but also for function. These clients only invested an additional $1800 for heated floors in this 10′ x 14′ bathroom. Their master bathroom was over the garage and we all know what Iowa winters are like!  No more frozen toes and as an added bonus, their home sold in 6 days.

Heated floors are rapidly gaining popularity among homeowners across the nation.
